"tonight Cat, she's going to be..." a chart-topping Australian singer.

Redcar schoolgirl Jessica Robinson is transforming herself into pop star Natalie Imbruglia on national television.

The Normanby teenager was chosen to appear on ITV's Stars In Their Eyes Kids - to be broadcast tomorrow - after impressing show judges at auditions.

Jessica, 14, said: "I couldn't believe it when I was chosen to take part.

"It was absolutely amazing to be transformed and then do the recording.

"It was really exciting and I enjoyed seeing behind the scenes.

"I really enjoyed meeting the other performers who were on the show and presenter Cat Deeley was really nice too. She helped to put us all at ease."

Jessica was also amazed at how much detail was involved in transforming her into a Natalie Imbruglia lookalike.

"I had my hair dyed and they carefully chose the clothes which would help me to look like her.

"I didn't realise how much it would all involve.

"The filming was over two days as well, which was bit of a surprise.

"I didn't realise the filming would take that long.

"It was really exciting performing in front of a studio audience," she added.

Jessica is involved in Middlesbrough Youth Theatre
and the Northern School of Music in Hartlepool.

She said: "I don't know which I prefer, singing or acting.

"I've performed with a variety of local groups and get involved in school shows.

"I would like to get involved in musical theatre when I'm older and also teach music."

Gavin Salvesen-Sawh, head at St Peter's School

, South Bank, where Jessica is a pupil, said: "She is a very talented youngster and does a lot of singing and acting. We are very excited for her."

He said they intend to record the programme and include it on the school's website and also feature Jessica's TV appearance in the school's fortnightly newsletter.
